Batons & Handcuffs

It is a very commonly asked question - When can a Security Officer carry/use batons and handcuffs? The answer - when they have been trained, have authority from their employer and when they have a genuine reason (eg. patrols, working alone, night shifts, etc). They are NOT to be carried for Crowd Control, Private Investigations, Debt Collections or when off duty.

This course provides participants with the skills to assess a risk situation, respond to and manage a risk situation using batons and handcuffs as well as an in depth understanding of the legalities pertaining to the use of force. Weapon retention, weapon disarming, maintenance, storage and transport of restricted items is also covered.

The course is delivered through practical training, scenarios, role plays and group discussions. The instructors are industry professionals with extensive experience in the use of defensive weapons.This program is conducted through practical training, scenarios, role plays and group discussions.

Subjects Covered

  • CPPSEC3014A Control persons using baton
  • CPPSEC3015A Restrain persons using handcuffs 

Course Outcomes

On successful completion of this course, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment and may carry batons/handcuffs when authorised by their employer.

Prerequisites

  • Must have completed a Certificate 2 or 3 in Security Operations; or
  • Hold a Security Officer (Unarmed) licence

Participants should not attend with any injury that may be aggravated by physical participation in the course. While the course is not generally considered strenuous, a reasonable level of fitness is beneficial.

Duration

One Day in Class - 8.45am to 4.30pm.

Cost

The cost of the course is $200

Batons and Handcuffs are 'Restricted Items' and while there is no licence required to purchase or use them, it is an offence to be in possession of restricted items without a genuine reason>
